REPORT: Star Wars Films to Go on ‘Hiatus’

Disney CEO Bob Iger announced that Star Wars will be going on “hiatus” following the release of The Rise of Skywalker. Brent lang, the executive editor for Variety, broke the news on Twitter. “Disney CEO Bob Iger says #StarWars feature films will go on ‘into a hiatus’ following #RiseofSkywalker,” he wrote. “Says there will be lots of activity on TV front, mentions 3 series in the works for #DisneyPlus.”

Lang also dropped some other some other goodies. Apparently, Disney did a secret screening of the upcoming series The Mandalorian specifically for fan outlets. The House of Mouse has so far refused to release any screeners to the press in an effort to avoid spoilers. According to Lang, the series was received positively by the group.

Iger also revealed Disney’s approach to Star Wars and Marvel as whole. He sees the properties more than just film franchises, and wants to utilize them in other forms.

Going back to Iger’s previous comments regarding the three Star Wars TV series, it is unclear if he is including The Mandalorian in his count. Aside from The Mandalorian, Disney is also woking on an Obi-Wan serieswith Ewan McGregor reprising his role from the second trilogy, and an untitled series centered around Rogue One’s Cassian Andor.
