Following the lead of Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot, Ben Affleck — the DC Extended Universe’s Batman — has lent his support to the movement calling for the release of director Zack Snyder’s original cut of the Justice League film.
Today, Nov. 17 — the two year anniversary of Justice League’s United States release — Affleck sent a tweet simply containing the all-too-familiar hashtag “#ReleaseTheSnyderCut.”
Snyder himself has now responded to both Gadot and Affleck’s tweets. The director quote-tweeted Gadot’s #ReleaseTheSnyderCut post from earlier today, adding, “This ancient Amazonian can’t be wrong.” From there, he quote-tweeted Affleck’s new post as well, writing, “Neither can Batman.”
The influx of posts on social media related to #ReleaseTheSnyderCut was spurred on by a week-long campaign by the movement’s supporters. The movement was initially prompted by Justice League’s troubled production — which culminated in Snyder having to leave the project due to a family tragedy. The Avengers director Joss Whedon was enlisted in to complete reshoots that reportedly gave the version of the film that was released in theaters a lighter tone. Shortly thereafter, rumors of a shelved “Snyder Cut” of Justice League gained traction online. In addition to Affleck and Gadot, multiple people involved with Justice League have voiced support for #ReleaseTheSnyderCut, including their co-stars Ray Fisher and Jason Momoa.
