Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Lands a Pretty Average Rotten Tomatoes Score

With the review embargo lifted on Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, critics have begun to reveal their thoughts on the final chapter in the Skywalker Saga. Now, the review-aggregation site Rotten Tomatoes has unveiled its opening critics’ score for The Rise of Skywalker.

As of Wednesday morning, the Tomatometer score for The Rise of Skywalker sits at 56% with 117 total reviews. 66 reviewers ranked the film as “Fresh” and 51 as “Rotten.” The Critics Consensus reads, “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker suffers from a frustrating lack of imagination, but concludes this beloved saga with fan-focused devotion.”

Opinions on The Rise of Skywalker are mixed, with Jake Coyle of the Associated Press stating, “For a movie predicated on satisfying fans, “The Rise of Skywalker” is a distinctly unsatisfying conclusion to what had been an imperfect but mostly good few films,” and Molly Freeman of Screen Rant finding The Rise of Skywalker “gets bogged down in exposition and course-correcting The Last Jedi, but does have some fun moments and fan service.”

Once fans get to watch The Rise of Skywalker for themselves, we should expect to see the Audience Score ratings start to trickle in.
