Turner & Hooch is getting the TV treatment.
According to Deadline, the buddy comedy is being turned into a TV series for Disney+. The adaptation is being led by the creator of The Gifted, Matt Nix, and is a part of Nix’s overall deal with 20th Century Fox TV (which is owned by Disney).
The series will reportedly keep the premise of the original film, which stars Tom Hanks as a police detective who teams up with a stray dog to solve a crime. The 1989 film grossed $71 million off a $13 million budget.
This is not the first time Turner & Hooch has been modified for the small screen. A pilot for an ABC half-hour comedy starring Thomas F. Wilson (Legends of Tomorrow) was ordered but never made it to series. It aired under the Magical World of Disney banner in July 1990.
Turner & Hooch is one of the many older projects that is seeing new light on Disney+. The streaming service debuted with a High School Musical TV series, and it also has revamped Lizzie McGuire in the works, as well as a show based on Love, Simon and a sequel to 1993’s The Sandlot.
