Stephen King’s Carrie will get the small screen treatment as a limited series on FX.
According to Collider, the project is in its early stages. There is no writer or actor attached to the project, and no release date has been finalized.
The novel follows Carrie White, an unpopular and bullied girl from an abusive religious household who, after discovering that she has telekinetic powers, uses them to get revenge on those who made her life miserable.
The FX limited series is not the first time Carrie has made its way to the small screen. Hannibal’s Bryan Fuller wrote a TV movie adaption of the book, which premiered on NBC in 2002.
However, most people know the story of Carrie from its two theatrical films. The 1976 version starred Sissy Spacek in the titular role and was a critical and commercial success. Both Spacek and her co-star Piper Laurie received Academy Award nominations for their acting. The 2013 version cast Chloë Grace Moretz as Carrie White, with Julianne Moore portraying Margaret White. While it was a financial success, it received less critical adoration than its 1976 predecessor.
The book also spawned a Broadway musical, but it only lasted 16 previews and five shows before being shut down.
The news comes just days after Epix gave Jerusalem’s Lot, another TV series inspired by Stephen King’s work, a full series order.
